Social Awareness Project
The Social Awareness Project (SAP) marks the beginning of the Camper Journey. The Project aims to cultivate a sense of global responsibility in Campers by providing them with a platform to delve deep into both local and international issues, draft solutions and navigate the intricacies of international cooperation.
Orientation Day
The Orientation Day for the Social Awareness Project (SAP) took place on November 16, 2024, signaling the official dawn of the HKUYL Camper journey for 51 F.4 students.
The project aims to enhance Campers’ understanding of contemporary global issues that merit immediate attention. By promoting globalism, the project serves as a foundational platform designed to cultivate a sense of responsibility towards communities in need and inspire a genuine desire to create meaningful change in today’s society.
After splitting into seven groups, the Campers actively worked on various tasks with their teammates, laying the groundwork for this exciting journey.
Workshop
The Workshop of the Social Awareness Project (SAP) was held successfully on 30th November, 2024 at Queen’s College.
Campers were tasked to explore different global issues, delving into root causes and brainstorming potential solutions to problems surrounding the theme inequality. During the workshop, Campers presented their findings through comprehensive reports and presentations, while a judge panel was present to stimulate Campers’ critical thinking skills through immediate feedback and questions.
Apart from the presentation session, Campers participated in debate matches on current international affairs and engaged in group activities which fostered their teamwork and resource management. Campers not only acquired a more profound insight into global issues, but also gained a taste of the detriments brought by inequality on an individual and community level. We hope Campers were inspired to make a change and play a more active role in alleviating global problems.
World Congress
The World Congress was successfully held on the 23rd and 24th of December, 2024, at AMO, Star House.
The World Congress has prominently spotlighted the theme “Inequality”, a pervasive issue manifesting across various dimensions globally. Ambassadors were assigned to represent their respective countries and address a spectrum of pressing global challenges, fostering international diplomatic relations.
For the first day of the World Congress, ambassadors engaged in presenting their background research on pertinent topics. This was followed by an impassioned forum, where they deliberated on potential solutions to these global issues. The second day of the Congress required ambassadors to present a protocol on established Public-Private Partnerships, in order to facilitate the implementation of previously discussed policies.
We are honoured to have Mr. Aaron Chiu and Ms. Evana Yeung, our esteemed alumni, serve as our judges. Their constructive feedback and invaluable insights have undoubtedly contributed to the personal development of our ambassadors. As a whole, through simulating challenges faced on the international stage, the project aimed to equip our ambassadors with critical thinking skills, thereby making a positive impact to the world.
Closing Ceremony
The Closing Ceremony of the Social Awareness Project (SAP) was successfully held on Sunday, 19th January, 2025, at Wah Yan College, Hong Kong, marking the official conclusion of the Social Awareness Project.
During the final session of SAP, participants reflected on what had been a profoundly enriching and rewarding experience. Over the past few weeks, a series of activities—including valuable workshops, thought-provoking presentations, and engaging debates—had taken place. Participants had the privilege of exchanging ideas and opinions with their peers, learning from knowledgeable individuals, and establishing meaningful connections.
As the SAP journey came to a close, a palpable sense of achievement and camaraderie filled the atmosphere. Former strangers had evolved into a cohesive group of like-minded individuals, united by a shared passion for striving toward a better future. The knowledge gained, skills developed, and relationships forged during this endeavour are set to leave a lasting impact on the personal lives of the participants.
