Community Outlook -
Volunteering & Workshops

Moving onto the Community Outlook, Campers will have the opportunity to serve the community first-hand and help those in need in volunteering activities with NGOs, and broaden their horizons by interacting with people of varying backgrounds. During workshops and simulations, Campers can experience and gain insights from communal issues, ranging from the ageing population and the people with disabilities to inequality and intergenerational poverty.

Orientation Day

The Orientation Day, which marks the beginning of the Community Outlook (CO), was held on 20th January 2023 at Wah Yan College, Hong Kong. After the Closing Ceremony of the Social Awareness Project (SAP), Campers are divided into groups of eight and then participate in a City tracing activity. In this session, Campers explored and navigated through different places in Hong Kong with their group mates. Tasks were given to them at each checkpoint to deepen Campers’ understanding of Hong Kong’s culture and local social issues. Throughout the whole City Tracing, the problem-solving and teamwork skills of Campers were enhanced as they had to rely on effective communication, cooperation, and decision-making to complete the tasks successfully. The experience fostered a sense of camaraderie and unity among the Campers as they worked together towards a common goal.

First Community Service

The First Community Service of the Community Outlook (CO) was successfully held on 27th January, 2024 in the To Kwa Wan District. During the Service, Campers had the opportunity to hold an array of game booths for the activity, “The NEIGHBOURHOOD First Reunion Lunch”. Campers interacted with residents of all ages in To Kwa Wan District, spreading love and hope throughout the community.

Having the opportunity to interact with residents of To Kwa Wan District, Campers gained a different perspective to view their surroundings while sharing their joy and youthful spirit with the participants. Campers also acquired invaluable insights into organizing service projects and honed skills in capturing attention, facilitating effective communication and planning during the event.

Second Community Service

The Second Community Service was successfully held on 3rd February, 2024, thanks to the seamless cooperation with Plan International Hong Kong. During the Service, Campers served as volunteers and translated 145 letters for the Plan International Hong Kong, facilitating the communication between donors and recipient children. This allows Camper to gain a broader perspective on global issues and challenges faced by the recipient children in other countries. It also offers them an opportunity to improve their language skills and develop self-reflection.

Third Community Service

Over the course of the Community Outlook, we were honoured to have collaborated with Hong Kong Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA), to organise a two-day service, on the 16th and the 18th of February, 2024.

On the first day, campers had the opportunity to visit the homes of the elderly. During the visit, campers presented gifts to the elders and chatted about past memories, and the minutiae of daily life. Through this activity, campers grafted the opportunity to view their surroundings from a different perspective and treasure what they had, while sharing their joy and youthful spirit with their societal predecessors.

On the second day, campers divided into two groups and held a series of activities and performances which are relevant to Chinese culture so as to celebrate the year of Loong with the elderly. Campers showcased takeaways from previous services and utilised their newfound insights to serve members of the public. As such, campers developed a better sense towards the practical side of organising a service activity through extensive planning, and refinement of ideas, as well as gaining valuable experiences of communicating with others and creating a welcoming atmosphere.
