World Summit 2009

World Summit 2009 World Summit 2009

The GAP world summit was held in the lecture room of the Teaching Complex West, Chinese University, on the 28th and 29th December 2009. Dressed in the formal, heavy suits were our fresh and bright campers, who were all prepared for the intense schedule ahead of them. The summit was divided into three parts; the presentation of proposals, the question session from different countries and the voting session where two out of six proposals will be passed.

The campers first had to present the proposals on the different global issues which consisted of resolutions to exterminate the existing problems. They all demonstrated eloquent presentation skills, with convincing argument to persuade the countries to vote for their proposal.

At the same time, the campers were also assigned with different country roles where they would direct questions to the groups who were presenting on behalf of the countries. They did excellent by really thinking in their countries’ shoes, and thoughtfully examining the benefits and adverse effects of each proposal on their own country. During the final voting session, the campers were able to let go of their personal interests, and voted for proposals which they thought would really benefit their countries instead of the proposals they presented themselves.

Moreover, during the summit, there was a simulation on a scene where terrorists from Afghanistan took hostage of a power station in USA. Where at the end, the power station was bombed and the entire Washington D.C. was in a completely black out. Luckily, our witty campers were able to put together a list of emergency solutions within a night.

With rational decisions being made by our future young leaders, we all now believe that we are a step closer to achieving a better world.
